The Mongol Derby enlists the horsepower of over 1,500 Mongolian horses. These don't come from one family alone, they come from over 500 herders across the steppe.⁠

Our rider's home away from home, is actually someone else's home.
Riders throughout the Mongol Derby are invited into the home of the nomadic herding families we partner with. The Mongolian Ger is a much sought-after refuge from the elements. They have walls lined with thick felt and a dung-burning stove to heat things up.
Throughout most of Mongolia, trees are a limited resource so the dung from animals becomes the fuel for these fires.
