The thundering hooves of brave Equestrianists from across the globe will soon resonate through the vast Mongolian steppes as the 12th Edition of the Mongol Derby is about to kick off. This awe-inspiring event brings together horse riders from eleven different countries, all eager to challenge themselves in the Guinness Book of World Records’ ‘World’s Longest and Toughest Horse Race.’ With a spirit of adventure and camaraderie, they are prepared to push the boundaries of endurance and skill in this ultimate test of horsemanship.

Video Updates

This year we’re launching what will hopefully be daily video highlights for you all to enjoy. Here’s the first of them…

Returning Champions and New Hopefuls

Among this year’s contenders, we welcome back familiar faces and newcomers alike. Trinity Nelzen, following in her father’s footsteps, ventures to honor his memory after he triumphed in the Mongol Derby a decade ago. Her determination and heritage add an emotional touch to the already thrilling race.
Notably, Phoebe de Raeve and Bianca Farmas-Griffith, seasoned riders who participated in the 2022 edition, are back for a second try at conquering the Mongolian wilderness. Their previous experience will undoubtedly aid them, but the unpredictable nature of the Derby keeps them on their toes.

An International Melting Pot

Representing diverse corners of the world, riders from the USA, UK, Spain, Kenya, Sweden, Germany, Pakistan, Australia, Ireland, Philippines, and Canada converge to partake in this legendary race. Hailing from various equestrian backgrounds, these riders span an array of disciplines, united by their love for the noble steed and their passion for taking on monumental challenges.

The Journey to the Steppes

Before they embark on this extraordinary race, the riders had a lively seven-hour bus journey. During this time, they underwent essential GPS training, an indispensable tool for navigating the vast expanses of the Mongolian steppes. As the group bonded, they shared an amusing “group pee break” on the side of the road, where trees were scarce, breaking the ice and setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

Into the Heart of the Mongolian Wilderness

Crossing the seemingly endless steppe, the riders finally arrived at the custom-built luxury camp nestled in the sacred mountains of Khugnu Khan. Welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd of crew members, they were treated to fermented mare’s milk, a traditional Mongolian gesture of hospitality. The riders will spend the next days honing their skills and putting their training to the ultimate test, mentally and physically preparing for the exhilarating start on August 2nd.
